Ed is a veteran of the private wealth management arena, and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, having served as a Senior Investment Consultant with Robert W. Baird before joining our firm. Involved with closely-held and family businesses for over 20 years, he is uniquely qualified to work with other business owners including manufacturers, equity partners of professional services firms and healthcare professionals in private practice.
A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, his focus areas include:
- Comprehensive wealth management for business owners and their families
- Business succession and tax efficient wealth transfer planning
- Wealth preservation strategies for business owners
- Qualified retirement plan services for closely-held businesses
Ed believes, "There's more to net worth than just investments and true wealth management must consider the Big Picture, including tax efficiency, preservation of assets and sensible use of debt. Too often, portfolio construction happens outside the broader context of other assets, business risk, estate planning and wealth preservation. My partners and I develop understandable, process-based wealth management programs. We are trusted strategists, central to assisting our clients in pursuing their goals and defending their net worth."
“Business owners are the pure athletes of the business world. Many of our business owner clients build considerable value in their ventures without being deliberate about succession planning or how their wealth outside their companies should be coordinated. Many also need to implement a sound asset preservation strategy to insulate their personal wealth from their companies. They want a plan to leave as much as possible to their children and grandchildren, and not to Uncle Sam. They want to educate their children on how to handle financial affairs. Despite their desire to take care of these matters, many business owners put them off due to their workloads. Our job is to act like personal trainers, helping set priorities, working to develop the optimal plan and helping ensure that our clients get these things done.”
Ed is married to Emily and has three children, Andrew, Will and Isabella. He is active in Barrington youth sports, St. Anne's Church and the Big Shoulders Fund, which mentors and raises scholarship funds for needy inner city children.
